Character List
Hollis Danby:
A feature journalist with the national magazine Off The Wall.
In her late 30's, the widow of a man who died young in a car
crash. Short and competant-looking, with short, curly brown
hair. Her most prominant feature is her bustline, with is as
out of proportion to the rest of her figure as Dolly Parton's
and causes her endless grief and embarrassment. Nicknames: Holly
Holy and Holly Huge.
Elizabeth Anderson:
Hollis' business partner, also a journalist with Off The Wall.
A few years younger than Hollis, her tall, slender figure and
silvery-white hair, cut very short in a punkish style, make
her seem in her twenties. She is icy in appearance; though most
people would consider her beautiful, men are put off by her
coldness. This attitude has been with her for a long time --
since her college affair with rock star David Blakely, whom
she has never forgotten or forgiven. Nicknames: The Lizard and
Snowflake.
Kevin Richardson:
A rock star in his late forties, one of the original British
invasion stars. Richardson is interviewed for a series of articles
Hollis and Elizabeth are doing about `rock dinosaurs', and befriends
Hollis. It is he who invites them to the benefit art show in
New York, and gets them started on their `alternative art gallery'
series.
Pauline Richardson:
Kevin's wife, a beautiful ex-model and mother of his two children.
She is fiercely loyal and protective in her love for her ugly,
full-of-personality husband. She also befriends Hollis.
David Blakely:
A British rock star in his mid-forties, on the same level as
Kevin but more notorious due to his lifestyle and reputation.
He has become a painter, and it is Kevin who throws him together
with Elizabeth and Hollis. Extremely handsome at any age, with
bright auburn hair and blue-grey eyes. Nicknames: The Dark Prince;
Rumour.
Digby Parsons:
Approximately forty, David Blakely's former roadie, now a street-person
in Denver. Also the subject of one of Blakely's paintings. He
knows the secret of David's nightmares and memory loss.
Ben Baker:
Senior editor of Off The Wall in New York, and Elizabeth and
Hollis' boss (nominally, anyway). He has little control over
what they write or how they do it, but attempts to keep his
hand in as much as possible.
Joshua Bowker:
Owner of The Crucial Gallery, an alternative art gallery in
London where Blakely has a showing of his paintings.
Charles Byrne:
David's agent in London, and an old school friend. David was
his first client, and they had remained working partners and
friends ever since.
Echo:
An international model, African in nationality. She is approximately
30, nearly as tall as Blakely, with a fabulous body and face
-- and a wonderfully kind, sweet personality. She has an affair
with Blakely.
Michael Callahan:
The London editor of Off The Wall. Extremely tall (6'4"
or thereabouts), with strawberry blond hair and a very Scottish-English
face, lean and handsome. Very nice, traditional in outlook and
dress, but at home in the trendy crowd he is forced to frequent
(but only does so on working time).
Frank Niles: Charles Byrne's houseman.
Marge Harper: Charles Byrne's secretary, later owner
of his agency.
Kathleen Doherty: The inspector from Scotland Yard.
John Anderson: Assistant to Benny Garland, a California
rock promoter.
Sergeant Belsen: Kathleen Doherty's assistant.
Skippy Marks: A male model.
Lawrence Corbey: Charles Byrne's lawyer.
Jeremy Bartlett: Owner of Chastity Records, Kathleen
Doherty's lover.
Carlton Davis: The psychic.
Fred, Jeffrey and Chelsea: Would-be kidnappers.
Jason Miles: The politician (a poor, confused little
pervert).
Dr. Richards: The hypnotherapist.
Josie Paine: The cub reporter for The News of the World.
